The São Paulo Metrô required a comprehensive security upgrade to enhance passenger safety and operational efficiency across its vast transit network. The project aimed to integrate AI-powered video intelligence, including facial recognition, intrusion detection, and object tracking, to monitor activity across 18 stations on Line 3-Red, expanding to 55 additional stations over the next 30 months. Challenges included deploying a system capable of real-time threat detection while adhering to privacy regulations, managing a complex and expansive infrastructure, and ensuring seamless integration with existing monitoring and control processes to protect over 21 million residents using the network.
