Fortaleza Turns to ISS for Next-Gen Video Intelligence
Located on the northeast coast of Brazil, Fortaleza, which is Portuguese for “Fortress” and so named for the role it played in ongoing colonial battles throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, is one of the largest cities in the country with a population of just over four million.
After experiencing abnormally high rates of homicide and property crimes in 2017, the city examined making public security policy changes that eventually led them to new investments in security technology by the City of Fortaleza, through the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security (SESEC) and Municipal Guard of Fortaleza (GMF). The following year, Fortaleza officially implemented its Municipal Urban Protection Program (PMPU) and deployed a wide range of new security solutions, including video management software and analytics from ISS.
