Presight AI and ISS Host Successful Forum at Inter-American Development Bank Annual Meeting
Top government speakers discuss uses of artificial intelligence to combat financial crimes, fraud, collect taxes, and serve citizens better.
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – March 9th, 2024 – Presight and ISS (Intelligent Security Systems) hosted a forum at the prestigious Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) annual meeting this week. The meeting gathers ministers of finance, economy and planning, as well as central bank directors, from more than thirty countries within the region. The topic was: “The AI Frontier in Government Finance” and focused on how advanced technologies are helping governments reduce fraud, curb money laundering and enhance tax collections.
The event convened an impressive lineup of distinguished personalities and experts, including: Emilio Pineda, the Fiscal and Municipal Management Division Chief at IDB; Renata Vargas Amaral, Secretary of International Affairs and Development from the Ministry of Planning and Budget of Brazil; Osvaldo Santin, representing Mexico’s SAT Tax Collection Agency; Andres Valenciano, director of ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean); Santiago Guierrez, executive editor of Editora Latin Trade; and Marcio Ferreiera Verdi, Executive Secretary of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administration.
The event served as a vital platform for attendees to explore innovative strategies and collaborative solutions to address the evolving challenges posed by financial crimes in the region. With an estimated four to six percent of regional GDP lost each year to tax avoidance and financial crimes (IDB and World Bank estimates), the use of advanced technologies has the potential to have meaningful economic impact for Latin America and the Caribbean.
