Dynamic pedestrian illumination system showcased before transportation officials at landmark event
Woodbridge, N.J., September 24, 2026 – ISS (Intelligent Security Systems), a leading global provider of video intelligence and data awareness solutions, today announced its participation in the first-ever U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Roadway Safety Innovation Expo, recently held at USDOT headquarters in Washington, D.C. ISS was among just over 40 companies selected to exhibit at the invitation-only showcase, which was jointly hosted by the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Railroad Administration, the Federal Transit Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
The expo brought together senior officials from USDOT and state transportation agencies from across the country to evaluate emerging technologies transforming roadway safety. At the event, ISS demonstrated SecurOS® Soffit, an AI-driven safety solution that leverages dynamic illumination to protect pedestrians at crosswalks.
Unlike conventional streetlights that broadly illuminate a surrounding area, the Soffit uses advanced analytics to detect pedestrians as they approach and traverse a crosswalk, directing a powerful, aimable LED lighting array to escort each person across the street. This targeted illumination heightens driver awareness without creating glare or unnecessary light pollution. The Soffit’s proprietary AI is also trained specifically to detect human movement and filters out false positives such as animals, shadows, blowing debris, and vehicles. The system does not collect any personal data whatsoever.

As agencies nationwide seek proactive, technology-driven approaches to reducing roadway fatalities, the expo provided a critical platform for ISS to engage decision-makers at both the federal and state levels.
